The vast majority of courier drivers tend to use a van to go about in delivering parcels to both residential and business premises. So, how has the new van market been doing here in the UK in April 2023 in comparison to say a year ago?
Well it is pleasing for us to report that, according to figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of new vans sold here in the UK last month amounted to 22,665 whereas in April 2022 the number of such vehicles sold amounted to 21,597. That is an increase of 4.9% – a relatively small rise albeit a welcome one.
The sale of Battery Electric Vehicles saw a big rise when comparing April 2023 with April 2022. Last month the number of such vehicles sold totalled 1,494 compared to 919 in April 2022. That is a rise of 4.9%.
On a year to date basis to April 2023, the number of new vans registered here in the UK totalled 109,937 whereas on a year to date basis to April 2022 the number of new vans sold amounted to 95,941 – a significant rise of 14.6%.
The top 3 selling new vans on a year to date basis to April 2023 were: –
1. Ford Transit Custom 13,912
2. Ford Transit 8,564
3. Ford Ranger 6,121
It is interesting to see that Ford is the top manufacturer of new vans for the UK in the first 3 places. Those working for Ford will no doubt be pleased with this statistic.
