If you are a courier driver you will be aware that this is likely to be your busiest time of the year. After all, leading up to Christmas is the time when you are probably going to be delivering more parcels than at any other time as people purchase gifts for family and friends.

Of course, the busier you are then the more money you are likely to make which will no doubt come as a welcome boost to your personal income especially at this time of year. It will hopefully enable you to generate enough income to support you and your family over the festive period.

Unfortunately, it is the time of year when there is more traffic on the roads so you are more likely to get caught up in a road traffic accident than at any other time of the year. In addition, the inclement weather including wet and slippery roads caused by rain, snow and ice tends to result in more crashes on the roads. So, you may wish to consider adjusting your driving such as slowing down a little based upon the road conditions as it takes longer to come to a halt when the roads are slippery. Check your tyres to make sure that you have a good tread on them enabling you to come to stop quicker if necessary. Have your brakes checked to make sure you do not need to replace your brake pads. Make sure your windscreen washer reservoir is topped up so that you can clean your windscreen regularly. Are your light bulbs all working? Be particularly careful when reversing.

As you are going to be busier make sure that you plan your drops as carefully as possible so that you try to avoid having to revisit the same areas on a number of occasions in the day. This will save you time and hopefully reduce your potential stress level whilst driving as you will not feel as rushed trying to get from one drop to another.

Do try to take a few breaks during your working day. We know it may sound easier to talk about this than actually doing it but it should make for a more “relaxing” day’s work on the road.

Hopefully, as a courier driver, you may receive a few tips from grateful Christmas shoppers who have left their Christmas shopping until the last minute.
